EP1. introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Palm. I am studying in Computer Engineering at Kasetsart university. I am going to SHARE my experiences for being an internship student at Refinitiv Thailand, formerly known as Thomson Reuters Software Thailand. I had been working here for 6 months (June - Nov 2018).

  • Why I made a decision to apprentice here
  • How I registered and passed the interview
  • What I expected if I passed it
  • What I got from working here as an internship student
  • Why I made a decision to apprentice here

I ever worked as an internship student in summer when I was a sophomore. I asked my supervisor about companies where work globally because I wanted to improve my English and apprentice there. He said Refinitiv (Thomson Reuters), one of branches from all around the world was in Thailand near Si-lom area and people there often used English. I was so surprised. I asked more people who had ever worked as internship students. They would always recommend me to join this company and say that I would get a lot of experiences from there. I browsed the Refinitiv (Thomson Reuters) website then I found that there were many positions. So If I got a chance to apprentice here, I would get many opportunities to do. I made a decision without hesitating. I was going to make it!

How I registered and passed the interview

Although the internship project was not open at that time, I sent an email to HR, Mr.Suparerk, to ask for more information. I found that there were a few steps to interview following

  • The 1st round : screening resume process
I got to send my resume first then I had to wait for the screening resume process. I passed it! He called me back to have me an appointment to interview via the phone call with the technical developer.
  • The 2nd round : technical skills
I took about 1 hour to interview with him. He asked me about technical skills that I had. For instances, Have you ever made the website? What technology did you use? How diffent between git commit and git checkout? How did you secure you files? and etc. I thought we took about 50 minutes to ask those questions. About English skills, He asked me to recommend him to travel at my hometown. He also asked me a few questions while I was talking. After we finished interviewing, he told me that he would send the result of my interview to HR so I had to wait.
  • The 3rd round : qualifications with team
I called with the team, transaction team. There were about 5 people on that call. They asked me if my knowledge was suitable to thier work. They asked me some technical skills as the 2nd round. They asked me a lot about my attitudes for work and life. What would I like? What would I do in my free time? They also tested my languages. The storytelling that I got was The Rabbit and The Tortoise in Laos and English. They also said that I might not be able to join their team If they found another intern who was more suitable than me. After finished interviewing, they would send the result to HR as well. I had to wait again.. Finally, I MADE IT!
  • What I expected and got

  • I - Improvement
  • I wanted to be better at technical skills. I expected that when I finished working here, I had to have some new technical skills to apply on my projects in the future.
  • C - Connections
  • Five floors are mine, I wanted to be an internship student who had friends on every floor. If I had some problems that I could not fix it, I would know who could help me or who could suggest me to other people. Yes, I made it.
  • E - English
  • I really wanted to practice, improve and use my English. I wanted to work with foreigners and speak English all the time while I was working here. What the lucky I got! I met Mr.Leandro Bedin,Transactions Platform Group, who was working and visiting in Thailand. His desk was next to my desk! We got chances to talk anything. We would always stroll around and went to meet new people at our office. If he knew someone, he would recommend me to meet them. I love it!

All I want. You could follow me to the next episode. I am going to talk about my teams. I could not tell you the whole happy story, but you could see how good my life was when I was an internship student at Refinitiv Thailand, Thomson Reuters.
